Beginner's Guide

Top Heroes is a mobile idle RPG built around three rival factions, a growing roster of heroes, and a castle you’ll spend the whole game upgrading. If you’ve just downloaded the game and the tutorial dumped you into the world map with a level-five castle and no idea what to do next — this guide is for you.

Think of this as advice from a guild mate who’s been playing for a while. No theory crafting, just practical stuff.

You start by choosing one of three factions: Horde, League, or Nature. This choice matters — it defines which heroes you’ll collect, which seasonal content suits you, and which rivals you’ll clash with most.

Horde — aggressive, physical damage dealers. Their legendary roster (Wilderness Hunter, Swordsmith, Shaman) hits hard early, and their mythic heroes (Desert Prince, Storm Maiden, Witch) arrive by day 21. Good choice if you want strong early momentum.

League — a balanced faction with a mix of magic and physical. Legendaries include Astrologer, Secret Agent, and Bard. Mythics start arriving at day 35 (Paragon first). Leader is considered one of the most impactful heroes in high-difficulty content.

Nature — slower to get mythics (they don’t arrive until Season 1 at day 53), but once Monk and Tidecaller are in your lineup, they’re formidable. Legendary awakening priority is Forest first, then Treant.

The honest advice: Pick the faction whose aesthetic appeals to you. You’ll spend a lot of time with these heroes. All three factions are viable — there’s no wrong pick.

After the tutorial you’ll have some free summons. Don’t panic about pulling the “right” hero immediately. In the first few days:

  • Use summons on your faction’s banner to build your legendary core team
  • You’re aiming to have your three starting legendaries at a reasonable ascension level before mythics arrive
  • Don’t splurge diamonds on summons early — save them for events and targeted banners

The legendary team you build in weeks 1–2 will carry you until mythic heroes start arriving around week 3–6 (depending on faction).

Everything in Top Heroes comes back to these four loops:

Your castle level gates almost everything — troop capacity, building unlocks, hero levels, and access to higher-tier content. Upgrading it is always a priority.

Key dependencies:

  • Castle levels alternate requiring Research Cottage/Hospital upgrades or Guild/Training Ground upgrades
  • Don’t neglect your support buildings — they’re the bottleneck more often than resources
  • Once you hit level 40+ you’ll need a second resource type, and costs scale significantly

Focus your hero investment, don’t spread it thin. Level up your core team of three to four heroes before spending on anyone else. Star ascension and skill upgrades matter more than sheer quantity.

Mythic heroes replace legendaries starting around week 3 (Horde) or week 5–6 (League), so don’t over-invest in legendaries you’ll retire soon — but do level them enough to be useful in the meantime.

Train troops whenever your queues are free. Research is passive but compounds over time — never let your research queue sit empty. If you can afford the 2nd Research Queue (~$9), it’s one of the best value purchases in the game.

Log in daily. Complete the quest list. Participate in events. This sounds basic, but the players who fall behind are usually the ones who skip days during the first few weeks when growth is fastest.

When you open the game each day, run through this mental checklist:

  1. Collect your idle resources and castle rewards
  2. Queue up construction and research (never leave these empty)
  3. Complete daily quests — they’re your most reliable source of diamonds
  4. Use stamina on heroes or the campaign
  5. Do any active events (check the event tab)
  6. Train troops if you have resources spare

You don’t need to spend hours every day. A 15–20 minute focused session beats two hours of wandering menus.

Spending diamonds impulsively. Diamonds feel abundant early, but they’re not. Save them for events where you can pull targeted hero banners, or use them in shops for key items. Spending 500 diamonds on a summon today might cost you a mythic hero next week.

Neglecting research. Research upgrades are always running in the background. Missing a day of research is painless; never starting research is a real setback over weeks of play.

Over-ascending heroes you’ll replace. Your early legendaries will get replaced by mythics. Focus them enough to function — but don’t pour every upgrade resource into a hero you’ll retire at week 4.

Upgrading buildings randomly. Castle upgrades require specific buildings to be at certain levels. Check the requirements before spending time upgrading something that doesn’t unlock your next castle tier.

Skipping the guild. Seriously, join a guild.

Guilds in Top Heroes aren’t just a social feature. They provide real progression benefits:

  • Guild boss fights and cooperative events give exclusive rewards
  • Guild technology research buffs your entire account
  • Active guilds run coordinated KvK (Kingdom vs Kingdom) campaigns
  • Guild members share intel, gift codes, and progression advice

When to join: As soon as you can. Don’t wait until you feel “ready” — every day in a guild generates value you can’t get back. Look for a guild that’s active in your timezone and communicates. A medium-tier active guild beats a top-ranked dead guild every time.

  • Check the gift code page regularly — free codes drop via Discord, social media, and live streams. A few minutes of code redeeming is always worth it.
  • Don’t switch factions. Starting over loses days of progress. Commit to your pick.
  • Look at your hero upgrade screen before spending. Many resources have multiple uses — make sure you’re spending on the right thing.
  • Keep your Hospital full-ish. Troops in hospital heal over time. Don’t let wounded troops sit in the field if you’re not actively fighting.
