Troops

Troops are the military foundation of your Top Heroes account. Your troop count, tier, and composition determine your strength in PvP events, guild battles, and rally warfare. Understanding how training, morale, and healing interact lets you extract more combat power from the same resources.

Top Heroes fields multiple troop types, each with a distinct combat role:

  • Infantry — high-health frontline fighters that absorb damage and protect other units
  • Cavalry — high-damage mobile strikers with strong burst potential but lower durability
  • Ranged — consistent damage output from range; effective against specific enemy types
  • Siege — specialised for attacking fortifications and structures

Troops are tied to the three hero factions. Your faction Barracks — Horde Barracks, League Barracks, and Nature Barracks — each train their corresponding troop types. Troop faction alignment interacts with hero leadership bonuses.

Troops are trained in your faction Barracks. Training capacity and speed scale with Barracks level and relevant research upgrades.

  • Training queues — the number of simultaneous training slots increases as Barracks levels up
  • Speed-ups — consume training speed-up items to complete queues instantly; each minute of speed-up earns 30 Guild Arms Race (GAR) Stage 5 points
  • Batch completion — finishing a training batch earns 40–450 GAR Stage 5 points depending on the troop tier trained

GAR tip: Save training speed-ups for active GAR Stage 5 (Combat Ready) windows. Consuming them during this phase earns the same points as spending them outside of it, but the event rewards on top make each speed-up significantly more valuable.

Higher-tier troops are substantially stronger in combat than lower-tier ones. Tier unlocks are tied to Castle level, building upgrades, and research progress.

When to train higher tiers:

  • As soon as they become available — higher-tier troops win fights lower-tier ones lose
  • Before any major PvP event where troop strength determines outcome

When lower-tier training makes sense:

  • Early in a new account before higher tiers are accessible
  • Filling training queues cheaply during GAR events to accumulate batch-completion points

Avoid spending premium speed-ups on low-tier troop batches outside of active events.

Troop morale affects how effectively your army performs in combat. High-morale troops fight at full capacity; low-morale troops underperform against equivalent opponents.

Morale is influenced by:

  • Recent battle outcomes — wins raise morale, losses reduce it
  • Time between engagements — troops recover morale while resting
  • Hero leadership skills and specific buff abilities

Morale matters most during sustained war events where you are fielding the same troops repeatedly. When possible, allow recovery time between rallies and avoid sending troops into battles they are likely to lose when morale is already low.

Troops wounded in battle are sent to the Hospital rather than permanently lost — unless the Hospital is at capacity, in which case the overflow is permanently destroyed. Keeping Hospital capacity ahead of your total deployable troop count is essential.

Heal soldiers (per unit)1–7 (by tier)

GAR tip: During Stage 6 (Warrior), healing speed-ups earn the same 30 points per minute as training speed-ups do in Stage 5. If you have large numbers of wounded troops after battle, Stage 6 is the optimal time to heal them.

Hospital priorities:

  • Upgrade Hospital in lockstep with your Castle and Barracks — it is a prerequisite for Castle upgrades at multiple levels
  • Higher Hospital level increases both capacity and healing speed
  • Never let wounded troop overflow destroy units — a full Hospital during a battle is permanent troop loss

The best composition depends on the content you are targeting:

Content TypeComposition Priority
PvP rally attacksHighest available tier, faction-matched to your lead heroes
Guild defenceBalanced spread across troop types
World map bossesFaction-aligned troops for hero bonus interaction
Fort ContestHigh-tier mixed composition
Behemoth ralliesMaximum power regardless of type mix

Hero leadership skills apply to specific troop types — check each hero’s skills before deploying troops in that hero’s army to ensure you are getting the maximum leadership bonus.
