Villagers

This guide is based on community knowledge and may not reflect the latest game updates. Villager mechanics and unlock conditions may vary by server version.

The villager system lets you manage a population of castle residents who contribute to resource production and castle functions. While not as flashy as combat systems, consistent villager management adds meaningful resource gains that compound significantly over weeks of play.

Villagers are NPC residents assigned to roles in your castle. Each villager has:

  • A rarity tier that determines their output ceiling
  • Traits that suit them to specific job categories
  • A level that scales their production rate

Villagers are obtained through gameplay progression, events, and certain building upgrades that increase your castle’s population capacity. Your villager roster expands gradually — early on you manage a small crew; at higher castle levels you oversee a much larger workforce.

Traits are the core differentiator between villagers. Each trait provides a bonus that maps to a specific job type:

Trait CategoryBest Assignment
Production traitsResource-generating buildings (farms, lumber, quarry)
Military traitsTraining Ground and Barracks support roles
Research traitsResearch Cottage and tech-related roles
Commerce traitsMarket and trade-related roles

Always assign villagers based on their dominant trait. A villager with strong military traits working in resource production is underperforming in both roles. The right trait in the right role produces noticeably more output than a mismatched assignment.

Traits come in multiple tiers — typically Common through Legendary. Higher-tier traits provide larger bonuses at every villager level. As your roster grows:

  • Replace low-tier villagers in important roles with high-tier ones when you acquire upgrades
  • Retain high-trait villagers even at low levels — upgrading a high-trait villager is more efficient than working around a leveled low-trait one

Think of trait tier as the ceiling and villager level as how close you are to that ceiling.

The right assignment balance depends on your current bottleneck.

If your Castle and building upgrades are stalled by resource shortages, weight your best production-trait villagers toward your most-needed resources. During the Castle upgrade race, wood and stone shortages are common — concentrate production villagers accordingly.

If troop training speed is limiting your readiness for PvP events, weight assignments toward military and Training Ground roles. Even a few percentage points of training speed bonus translates into meaningful additional troops over a week.

Identify which resource or system you are most bottlenecked by, then assign your highest-tier villagers to roles that address that bottleneck. Reassign freely as your focus shifts — changing assignments costs nothing.

Villagers level up using experience items earned from events, daily activities, and specific quest rewards. Leveling increases their output rate up to the ceiling set by their trait tier.

Prioritise experience items in this order:

  1. Villagers with the highest-tier traits in your most critical roles
  2. Villagers in roles directly tied to your current progression bottleneck
  3. Newly acquired high-tier villagers joining your core team

Do not spread experience items evenly across all villagers — concentrating them on your strongest contributors returns far more total output.

Each session, a brief villager check takes roughly one to two minutes and prevents accumulated waste:

  1. Collect completed villager production output
  2. Reassign any idle villagers or those who have finished timed tasks
  3. Level up using any available experience items (prioritise highest-tier villagers)
  4. Slot new villagers acquired since your last session and assign them based on traits

The cumulative effect of this daily habit is significant. Players who neglect villagers are effectively leaving free resources uncollected every day — over weeks, that gap compounds into a real progression difference.
